Is a teenager on OnlyFans immoral?

What about a banana sold for 6 million, in the face of those struggling to make ends meet?

The line between moral and immoral in this day and age seems to be very thin.

So is that between ethical and unethical, or right and wrong.

Sometimes, however, I wonder who should be responsible for drawing this line.

And whether this line is something that should be the same for everyone, or everyone should have their own.

Because let's think about it for a second: every choice we make, after all, is based on that very invisible line that separates what we think is right from what we think is wrong.

But probably if we had been born on the other side of the world, that line would not be the same.

Polygamy, for example, which is considered amoral in some parts of the world, is completely normal in others.

Every choice we make, then, really seems to be based on a line that, in reality, is just the result of the culture in which we live.

But if this is really the case…. Are we really free to choose for ourselves?

Are we really free to embrace our uniqueness if every choice we make clashes with social and cultural dogmas that condition us deep inside?

Here it is: if you have ever felt a conflict between strongly desiring something and feeling that that desire was wrong….

You know exactly what I'm talking about.

If you have ever felt that inside YOU there is a bright side and a darker side in constant conflict with each other….

Know that you are not alone*.

The conflict between light and dark is one that we human beings have always been confronted with.

Religions, for example, are based on that very conflict.

And the idea that embracing your light side is the right way.

But are we so sure that embracing our bright side and abandoning our dark side is the right path?

Especially if we think that the light/dark line is drawn anyway by the social conditioning mentioned above.

The ancient Hermetic Philosophers, for example, said that a human being can consider himself complete (and therefore happy) only when he embraces his whole self.

And when he learns to live in balance between the different forces that reside within him.

So when he learns to embrace both his brighter and darker sides.

There it is: the idea of finding my own personal balance between light and dark (moral/immoral, ethical/non-ethical) resonates much more with me than having to blindly obey ethical and moral values that are merely the result of social conditioning.

But it is a concept that I had to struggle with strongly, because when you start questioning ethics and morality you feel that the ground is missing from under your feet.

You feel that all the foundations on which you grew up start to crumble.

But I think it is a necessary process, though, at least for those who want to know themselves better and find their own balance.

Accompanying me in this process, as always, has been Art, now a sincere guide for me.

The Thin Line Between The Light And The Darkness” is my art project that grew out of these very reflections and this journey in search of my balance.

A journey in which I had to question everything I have so far considered moral, ethical, right and good.

And it has not been easy. Not at all.

Do you want to know what the hardest part was?

Realizing that for YEARS I have repudiated a part of myself for no real reason, but only for going along with the preconceptions on which our society is based.

Imagine how much suffering we all experience every day because of this self-repudiation….

Here it is: as hard as the process of rediscovering Light and Darkness within oneself is, I believe it is precisely necessary in order to find lasting serenity and freedom.

If you want to find out more about this project, you can find it here.

And don't forget to share what you think about it: Art is about sharing and dialogue, which become growth if each of us gets involved with our own reflection 🙂

Challenge the ordinary, embrace the unusual. Always.

I am Emanuele “Renton” Fortunati, a spiritual and esoteric researcher: art is the laboratory where I carry out my experiments.

My aim is to reveal the connections between the spiritual and material worlds, because I believe that the essence of every Human Being is hidden right at the border between these two worlds.

What moves me is the idea that in each of us there exists a raw identity, free from social and cultural conditioning, and that if we expand our knowledge of ourselves and the reality around us enough, we can finally be free to embrace this true identity of ours. Our essence precisely.

And, thus, also be free to live according to our inclinations and create our own personal and unique life path.

Over the years I have realized that it takes 2 “steps” to find one's Essence.

The first step is to begin to disobey: abandon social rules and conditioning that prevent you from living according to your true nature.

The second step is to find your own Spiritual Identity: it is the only way you can really shine, and be a beacon for others around YOU as well.

Here it is: if my art revolves entirely around this second point, these pages, on the other hand, tell how I personally live both the spiritual quest and disobedience, with the idea that these shares can somehow come in handy for YOU and your Path as well.

Here you can find food for thought, texts that expand on my art projects and behind the scenes of my works and projects. And also a little (a lot) of healthy disobedience!
