We live a routine life, locked in a fence called the status quo.

~

A cow that has lived its whole life inside a fence will never escape, even when the fence is opened:
We humans behave the same way.

We just don't realize it.

I know: it's bad to be compared to cows. If you like we can compare ourselves to a bull.
Because a bull also behaves the same, it's not a question of gender.

It's not a question of strength.
It's not a question of willpower.
It's just a question of conditioning.

And we human beings, as much as we think we are a step above animals, actually function in the same way.

Even we from childhood are conditioned to live inside a fence.

A fence made of a job, of responsibility, of explicit rules and silent rules, norms to be observed, of freedom that must end where other people's begins, heaven forbid we step outside the box a bit.

Last night I saw a documentary where activists were opening the gates of cow pens, spurring them to run away.

But the cows just stood there, unmoving, unblinking.

Doesn't it seem to you that we human beings also behave the same way?

We live a routine life, locked in an enclosure called the status quo....

and even when we sense that real life begins right outside that fence ... we continue to obey and stay holed up in the ordinary.

Like cows precisely.

And we all do it, some more, some less. But all of us.

Because we are so addicted to the society we live in that we end up needing that fence.

We feel the need to be limited, because in limits we find security.

We feel the need to be “guided,” because we are too afraid to make choices true to ourselves if these go against the tide.

And, so, we sit quietly in our enclosure.

Ruminating about how much we would like to live a different life.

A life more true to our true nature.

A life that reflects our uniqueness.

A freer life where we can express ourselves for who we really are.

We are so intent on ruminating that we don't even realize that the fence is open.

And that all it takes to get out is a small act of disobedience.

No more disobeying meaningless social norms.

No more disobeying our fear of the unknown.

Just disobey our need for certainty.

Just take a deep breath and step into the unknown.

And then ... discover how amazing it is to live out there in complete freedom.

The same freedom that I sometimes lack, which is why I always try to take at least when I paint.

Here: when I paint I am no longer a cow inside a pen.

I am a Human Being dancing happily in the immensity of the unknown.

Totally Free.

Like the color on my canvases.

Challenge the ordinary, embrace the unusual. Always.

I am Emanuele “Renton” Fortunati, a spiritual and esoteric researcher: art is the laboratory where I carry out my experiments.

My aim is to reveal the connections between the spiritual and material worlds, because I believe that the essence of every Human Being is hidden right at the border between these two worlds.

What moves me is the idea that in each of us there exists a raw identity, free from social and cultural conditioning, and that if we expand our knowledge of ourselves and the reality around us enough, we can finally be free to embrace this true identity of ours. Our essence precisely.

And, thus, also be free to live according to our inclinations and create our own personal and unique life path.

Over the years I have realized that it takes 2 “steps” to find one's Essence.

The first step is to begin to disobey: abandon social rules and conditioning that prevent you from living according to your true nature.

The second step is to find your own Spiritual Identity: it is the only way you can really shine, and be a beacon for others around YOU as well.

Here it is: if my art revolves entirely around this second point, these pages, on the other hand, tell how I personally live both the spiritual quest and disobedience, with the idea that these shares can somehow come in handy for YOU and your Path as well.

Here you can find food for thought, texts that expand on my art projects and behind the scenes of my works and projects. And also a little (a lot) of healthy disobedience!
