“Soul Portraits” is an exploration of spiritual identity, aiming to represent the invisible energies that distinguish each person, beyond their physical appearance, thoughts and emotions.
With this project I aim to explore a truth that often goes unrecognized: at the core of every individual is not his or her human nature, but a spiritual identity, a true essence that exists on an energetic plane, unaffected by the conditioning of society.
Through this series of abstract portraits, I capture the energy of the soul, translating it into visual form. This work challenges the boundaries of traditional portraiture and goes beyond human identity, offering a glimpse into the spiritual nature of each person and revealing a deep connection between their physical and spiritual selves.
Each work in this project is a portrait of the soul of a real person, created in two basic stages.
The first is the energetic act of painting, and the second is the interpretation of the symbols that emerge in the work during the first stage.
After entering a deep meditative silence, the energetic process is initiated through a shamanic ritual, during which I ask to be guided into the spiritual world to meet the soul of the person I am about to portray.
Having received permission from the soul, I establish an energetic link with it, thus becoming a channel through which the soul can manifest itself freely in the form of colors, movements and esoteric symbols.
During this phase I am often in a trance-like state and become a mere brush in the hands of the soul that manifests itself through me, so much so that the colors and shapes in the works are often far removed from my traditional artistic output.
But beware: just as with the rest of my artistic production, the symbols and abstract forms present in these portraits are not random, but part of a spiritual alphabet, a language of the invisible world.
In the second stage, interpretation, I use sacred geometry, ancient color theories and the study of esoteric symbols to map the spiritual essence of the portrayed subject.
This detailed interpretation turns each portrait into a “soul map,” offering insights into the person's primal energies, spiritual qualities and even areas of challenge.
By understanding the symbolism, the person can gain a deeper understanding of their spiritual path and how it relates to their material existence.
This project blends the esoteric studies of the Symbolist movement with spiritual awareness ceremonies held by shamans to create a bridge between the material and spiritual worlds, offering new perspectives on identity and self-awareness.
In a world where our sense of self is often limited to the human and physical aspect, the invitation for the viewer is, then, to look beyond that, and to also consider the unseen spiritual forces that distinguish who we are.
All works are acrylic on canvas, measuring 90x90x3 centimeters.
