I just got into an argument with another artist:
He kept claiming that creativity is a talent of the few.... And I blurted it out.
Maybe because it reminded me that when I was a kid I was “invited” to do engineering instead of art....
Because I was not as creative as my sister.
Maybe it was because for half my life I believed I was not creative, and so I never followed my dream of making art (with 10 years of depression as a bonus).
Or maybe because this popular misconception that creativity is something for a select few is one of the reasons why people live totally detached from their true nature.
And, thus, forced to wander in the world (of work) without Purpose.
Without a reason to get up with joy in the morning.
Without a means to be able to express even the least rational and most authentic part of oneself.
Without a simple, direct and natural tool to connect with one's most spiritual nature.
Which is the one that, precisely, gives you a noble Purpose to follow. A reason to aspire to live a life out of the ordinary.
It all stems from totally wrong assumptions:
But there is nothing more wrong and misleading!
You try giving 4 colors and a white sheet of paper to any child: how white do you think the paper will stay!!!?
You try putting an adult in a room full of white walls that he can make dirty, and give him 8 buckets full of color: how long do you think the adult will last before he starts throwing color on the walls?
Creativity is a completely natural thing, as much as drinking and eating.
A person eats and drinks to fill the body; he expresses his creativity to fill the Soul.
Yesterday I was asked if even without a market for my art I would continue to paint?
Of course I would!
Because painting for me is the best medium I know to discover myself.
To express myself without filters.
To give space to my Spirit, which can then also express itself and give me joy and direction.
Closing the doors to creativity is one of the worst things you can do against yourself.
Then you can go down psychologist, meditation, personal growth courses, books and gurus all your life....
But if you don't connect with your most creative nature you will always have the feeling that something is missing in your life.
You will always have the doubt that the direction you choose is not the right one.
You will always feel that you are traveling with the handbrake pulled.
And, then stop for a second.
And remember that creative project you've been hiding in the drawer under your other dreams.
Maybe it crossed your mind to write a book.
Maybe you always wanted to learn to paint portraits.
Maybe when you were young you wrote poetry.
Maybe you loved to dance, and sometimes you still dream of doing it.
Now you have a choice in front of you: abandon all expectations and give some space to your creative nature.
Or continue to live as you have lived so far.
The truth is that you don't have to write a whole book to feel better about yourself*.
You don't have to paint something that others understand and appreciate to feel free*.
You don't have to show anything to anyone to feel proud* of yourself.
You just have to find the courage to disobey rationality and all the constructs that keep you away* from your true nature.
And then take a little step into the unknown and enjoy the journey to YOU.
Which is the most exciting and extraordinary journey a human being can ever take.
Challenge the ordinary, embrace the unusual. Always.

PS: Art is the language of the Soul, and a disobedient work of art tells of Your Journey of discovery of You.
Having one hanging in your home reminds you to never give up on Your Path, because the joy of expressing your true Essence is the greatest gift you can give yourself in life.
If you are looking for a painting that speaks to your Soul, I am here: write to me! 😉
I am Emanuele “Renton” Fortunati, a spiritual and esoteric researcher: art is the laboratory where I carry out my experiments.
My aim is to reveal the connections between the spiritual and material worlds, because I believe that the essence of every Human Being is hidden right at the border between these two worlds.
What moves me is the idea that in each of us there exists a raw identity, free from social and cultural conditioning, and that if we expand our knowledge of ourselves and the reality around us enough, we can finally be free to embrace this true identity of ours. Our essence precisely.
And, thus, also be free to live according to our inclinations and create our own personal and unique life path.
Over the years I have realized that it takes 2 “steps” to find one's Essence.
The first step is to begin to disobey: abandon social rules and conditioning that prevent you from living according to your true nature.
The second step is to find your own Spiritual Identity: it is the only way you can really shine, and be a beacon for others around YOU as well.
Here it is: if my art revolves entirely around this second point, these pages, on the other hand, tell how I personally live both the spiritual quest and disobedience, with the idea that these shares can somehow come in handy for YOU and your Path as well.
Here you can find food for thought, texts that expand on my art projects and behind the scenes of my works and projects. And also a little (a lot) of healthy disobedience!
