We are used to conceiving illness as something physical, when in fact illness is something absolutely spiritual.
Each person is a vehicle carrying a Soul, and as such each person is called to serve it, allowing it to manifest and express itself in all its magnificence.
When a person responds to his or her spiritual call, the vital energy of the Soul flows and is amplified in the person, who feels that he or she is living in that state of abundance, well-being and vitality often called “flow.”
But when a person rejects the call instead, his Soul begins to suffer, until he has an energetic abortion, which manifests on the material plane as an infirmity, which is, spiritually, precisely a rejection of Life.
“Abortion of the Soul” is a project inspired by the untimely death of my mother due to cancer, which aims to show the various stages of the Soul's suffering, which start from emotional suffering, until it becomes physical suffering, ending, then, in illness and until death.
Death, however, is not the end, or the victory of the disease, but is, on the contrary, the victory of life: when the person's physical body dies, the Soul can in fact reincarnate in a new body, and try again to express itself through the new person.
As in the rest of my artistic production, the creative process is a dual process, but in this case it also reflects the human experience of confronting suffering and seeking meaning in it.
The first stage is that of creation, which is totally instinctual: inspired by the work of Frida Kahlo and Egon Schiele on physical and emotional suffering, I use esoteric rituals to summon the energies that characterize the various stages of spiritual suffering and let them flow through my body. The result is a series of instinctive and raw works in which the physical suffering I myself experienced during the process is palpable, enriched, however, by some esoteric symbols that show how the Soul experiences suffering in the spiritual plane.
The second phase is, on the contrary, a time of rational interpretation of the symbolism hidden in the works, which unlike the other projects where each work is interpreted individually, in “Abortion of the Soul” the symbols are interpreted collectively, as the works as a whole are a metaphor for the Soul's journey of life, suffering and resilience.
The increasingly dense colors represent the advance of suffering, while the presence of color encrustations and textural inserts show the advanced stages of energetic abordo, when the disease is now visible even to the outside world. Finally, the white plaster spirals reflect the suffering of the Soul, which slowly dissolves into physical suffering, until it disappears during abortion.
“Abortion of the Soul” is a project that combines the emotional rawness of Neo Expressionism and Materic Art with the spiritual exploration of the Symbolists to create a dialogue about the nature of illness, the journey of the Soul, and the cyclical nature of life and death, thus becoming a universal invitation to reflect on how we live, the choices we make, and the ways in which we embrace or deny the call of our Soul.
All works are acrylic on canvas with golden leafts, measuring 100x100 centimeters.
Below some pictures of the creative ritual.
