Inside every person coexists a bright part and a darker part.
The first encloses all that we feel is lawful and right to express, and thus to bring to light.
While the second is home to those thoughts, behaviours and traits of us that we consider less worthy or immoral, and which we therefore try to repress and overshadow.
All choices in a person's life are played out precisely on the thin line between light and dark.
But who really draws this line? Is it the individual person who draws it for himself or herself from what he or she feels, or is it the upbringing received and the influence of context that draws a line to which we all then refer?
“The Thin Line Between Light and Darkness” is a project inspired by the ancient texts of Hermetic Philosophy, which exhort people to abandon the idea of light and darkness as two opposing factions from which to have to choose, and to try, instead, to find their own way of giving space to both extremes within themselves, so as to experience them in harmony and freedom.
Each work in the project is, then, an attempt to find this balance between the two forces, but without them losing their identity and beauty.
As with the rest of my production, the creative process is divided into 2 distinct and somewhat opposed phases.
The first is the spiritual act of painting during which, with the help of an esoteric ritual, I immerse myself in a deep meditative state and connect to the universal energy of light and dark, which I then let flow aggressively like a flooding river on the canvas, with raw and deep strokes inspired by the work of Emilio Vedova and Tracey Emin.
The second phase, on the other hand, is the rational interpretation of the symbolism present in the work: starting with the analysis of the colors and sacred geometries hidden among the brushstrokes, I identify the meaning of the work and how this relates to the way I seek this balance between light and darkness within myself.
It is through this dual process that my consciousness expands, and that each work becomes both the basis for the creation of the next work and a piece of a broader and deeper spiritual experience.
With this project, I invite the viewer to get involved in such a dual process: on the one hand, I invite the viewer to be carried away without preconceived notions by the spiritual and energetic power of the works, and on the other hand, I invite the viewer to reflect on how the forces of light and darkness act within each of us, and how they shape the society in which we live and our entire lives.
All works are acrylic on canvas, measuring 90x90x3 centimeters.
